Hinsdale Central Class of 2014 graduates 681 strong

For the first time in three years, Hinsdale Central High School was able hold its graduation ceremony outdoors on a beautiful spring evening.

With friends and relatives filling the stands and track at Dickinson Field next to the high school, 681 seniors received their diplomas, Hinsdale Central Assistant Principal William Walsh reported.

The ceremony included special recognition of the 15 students who ranked in the top 2 percent of the 2014 graduating class. Speaking on their behalf was the Class President Pei-Lun (Kelly) Hung , who was designated the Honors Orator.

Also addressing the crowd were seniors Laura Nelson and Gabrielle Roberts, both from Hinsdale.

Student Council President Lillian Chetosky of Hinsdale served as the master of ceremonies.

The Hinsdale High School District 86 School Board awarded the diplomas to the graduating seniors.

The students voted for the teachers they wanted to read aloud the names as they accepted their diplomas. The teachers regard it as an honor, Walsh said. They were English teachers Yulia Kapelnikova and Andrew Jones, and social studies teachers Chris Wilbur and Robert Russo.
