Gloria Tabaczyk and Christine Carmazzi, both seniors at Hinsdale Central High School, recently earned the Girl Scout Gold Award.
The Gold Award represents the highest achievement in Girl Scouting and is open only to girls in high school. Girl Scouts have to identify an issue, create a plan, take action and educate and inspire. Only 5.4 percent of eligible Scouts successfully earn the award.
Tabaczyk partnered with the Little Dresses for Africa organization in Brownstown, Michigan. She and a crew of volunteers made more than 135 pillowcase dresses for the organization which will be distributed to orphanages, churches and schools in Africa to “plant in the hearts of little girls that they are worthy.”
Carmazzi created a healthy living cookbook for the Hinsdale Community Services Food Pantry. The recipes focus on fresh fruits and vegetables and are simple, affordable and utilize ingredients that can be found in the food pantry.
Both will receive their awards at the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana Council’s Gold Award ceremony on June 7.Tags: Hinsdale Central High School
