Hinsdale South bids farewell to 437 graduates

Friends and family members applauded the graduation of 437 seniors from Hinsdale South High School Friday evening.

The Hinsdale South concert band played as the seniors, wearing traditional black caps and gowns, streamed into the stadium.

Maya Thompson, student president of the Class of 2014, served as master of ceremonies.

Kiana Shin spoke on behalf of the graduating class as the Honors Orator.

In addition to being involved in a variety of sports, clubs and activities, the girls, who both live in Burr Ridge, submitted draft speeches, plus auditioned for the roles in the commencement ceremony.

Nine students, who were ranked in the top 2 percent of the senior class, also were singled out for recognition.

Hinsdale High School District 86 Board President Richard Skoda addressed the students and the crowd, before other members of the School Board distributed the diplomas.
