Boys tennis: Hinsdale Central’s Eddie Grabill shocks teammate for singles title

For the second consecutive year, Hinsdale Central junior Eddie Grabill did something pretty remarkable on the final day of the IHSA boys tennis state tournament at Hersey: deny his teammate a repeat.

Grabill outworked a fellow Red Devil, defending state champion Martin Joyce, to win the singles state title 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 on Saturday.

A year ago Grabill and Harold Martin knocked off a pair of teammates, defending state champs Peter Heneghan and Alex Hagermoser, to win the state doubles title.
