Run the Ridge seeks to help kids trim the fat

Burr Ridge was a destination for runners over the weekend, as a celebration of fitness to help fight childhood obesity took place.

The 10th annual Run the Ridge included a 5K run and 1K run/walk, starting an finishing at the County Line Square shopping center. NBC5 Sports broadcaster Mike Adamle returned as race emcee. Funds went to ProActive Kids, a nonprofit, childhood obesity intervention program available at hospitals and other health care organizations in communities throughout Illinois.

The event also included fitness activities sponsored by the Burr Ridge Park District, as well as entertainment such as DJ Mike on Mic, and professional juggler Doug Sayers.

Jeremy Cook, 32, was the top finisher among the men with a time of 17:07. The top female finisher was Katie Deprosperis, 35, of Downers Grove with a time of 18:47

The winning team was Team Valteck , made up of Michael, Rudy, Noriko and Antoinette Valenta of Burr Ridge, and Olya Cholewick.
