Kevin Forde pitched a shutout and Fenwick recorded three runs in the third en route to a 3-0 win over Nazareth in the Class 3A sectional semifinals at Glenbard South on Wednesday.

Forde cruised most of the way, giving up four hits over the first six innings before running into trouble in the seventh. He loaded the bases, but got Tim DalPorto to ground out to the second baseman to end the game.

He went the distance, allowing seven hits and issuing two walks, while striking out four.

“He’s a battler and he got stronger as the game went on,” Fenwick coach Dave Hogan said of his starter. “He has more confidence as the games go on.”

Forde and Michael Krecek each drove in a run for the Friars (24-10), who also scored on a passed ball. Fenwick will face either Montini or Riverside-Brookfield in the sectional final on Saturday.

“Nazareth’s a hard team to beat,” said 34-year head coach Hogan. “They’ve been here before. This is the first time we’ll be in the sectional finals in a long time — since I’ve been here.”
