Hinsdale South’s defense was speedy and its goalkeeping impressive, but it wasn’t enough to stop Normal West on Friday.
The Hornets shut out the Wildcats’ high-octane offense for nearly 59 minutes in the Class 2A state semifinals at North Central College in Naperville before Abby Thompson volleyed home a cross from Kate Lorenz for her 25th goal of the season. Thompson’s strike with 21:02 left in the second half gave the Wildcats a 1-0 win.
“We’re so excited for tomorrow,” Thompson said. “Normal West has never won a state championship in any sport and we are so close to it. We just know we can do it.”girls soccer, Hinsdale South
