Area students earn campus honors

Christian D. Reich of Burr Ridge graduated from The University of Tampa. Reich graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts in new media production. Reich was a member of the Honors Program and Phi Kappa Phi. He received the Spartan Leadership Award and 2014 Outstanding New Media Production Award, and was the president of University of Tampa Gay Lesbian Transgender Straight Bisexual Asexual Pride He is a 2010 graduate of Hinsdale Central High School.

Mike M. Tavakoli of Hinsdale received a master of science, electrical and computer engineering degree from Oregon State University.

Students who have been selected to study abroad this summer with the University of Iowa CIMBA Italy program will be for four weeks in Paderno del Grappa, Italy at the base of the Italian Alps. While abroad, students complete six credit hours in the areas of business, journalism, communication, Italian and engineering. Students have the opportunity to indulge in Italian culture through excursions in local towns, participate in international company tours, network with students from around the globe, and travel Europe during two extended weekends. Students selected include:

Michael Ramos of La Grange Highlands, a 2010 Lyons Township High School graduate, graduated from Columbia College Chicago with a bachelor of arts degree in Illustration. Ramos recently won second place in The Paula Pfeffer and Cheryl Johnson-Odim Political Cartoon Contest.

University of Kansas announced spring 2014 candidates for degree, including:

Aubrey E. Zott, of Hinsdale, a member of the Bowdoin College Class of 2014 graduated with a major in biochemistry.

Ryan Collins of Hinsdale, was named to the University of Akron’s spring 2014 dean’s list.

Laura Schuler, of La Grange, was among over 900 students from Providence College who received undergraduate degrees during the college’s commencement exercises. Schuler graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science degree.

Amber Lee Hackler of Western Springs, whose major is biochemistry, was named to the president’s list at Clemson University for the spring 2014 semester. Hackler achieved a 4.0 grade-point average.

Grace Amodeo of LaGrange Park, graduated cum laude with a bachelor of science in business administration from the Heider College of Business during Creighton University’s commencement ceremony.

Students named to the University of Dayton’s dean’s list or dean’s recognition list for the 2014 spring semester include those undergraduate degree-seeking students who have a minimum of a 3.5 GPA for that semester and are enrolled for 12 or more credits for the dean’s list or enrolled no less than six credits and not more than 11 and one-half credits that semester for the dean’s recognition list.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has recognized students named to the dean’s list for the spring semester of the 2013-2014 academic year. Students who achieve at a high level academically are recognized by the dean at the close of each semester. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program, Luce Scholars Program, the National Science Foundation and other national organizations have awarded postgraduate scholarships and fellowships to members of the University of Notre Dame’s Class of 2014. Matthew Cook, Burr Ridge, received a Luce Scholarship, which supports a one-year professional placement and cultural immersion experience in Asia for individuals who have limited experience of Asia and a record of high academic achievement, leadership ability and clearly defined interests with evidence of potential for professional accomplishments.

Mary DeMars of Indian Head Park achieved the dean’s list for the spring semester at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa. In addition, she earned a bachelor of arts degree in writing. This summer she has been hired as an intern with the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Tulane University awarded degrees to more than 2,700 graduates in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans recently. The following local students graduated:
