Wonka Ball raises $80,000+ for About Face Theatre

“The Gayme Show,” About Face Theatre’s 2014 annual gala fundraiser coined ‘Wonka Ball,’ rolled the dice on May 9 inside Macy’s on State Street where nearly 500 guests gathered for a throwback to daily doubles, showcase showdowns and lifelines.

The fundraiser supports AFT’s award-winning main stage programming, new play development series and nationally-recognized educational programs.

The 2014 Leppen Leadership Awards were presented to long-time gay rights advocates Patricia Ewert and, posthumously, to her partner, Vernita Grey; and to Chicago House’s TransLife Center.

Since 1995, AFT’s thought-provoking plays have advanced the national dialogue on gender and sexual identity in Chicago, nationally and around the world. The event raised more than $80,000 for AFT programming.
