The 24 students who participated in the weeklong Broadway Bound summer musical theater camp in Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Elementary District 181 showed off the fruits of their labors Friday with a performance at Hinsdale Middle School.

The parents, grandparents, siblings and friends who watched saw just how much was achieved by the students, who range from just finishing third grade to getting ready to enter high school this fall. The performance included a little acting and a lot of singing.

“We just want them to have the experience of being on stage in front of an audience,” said Jan Clarin, who taught and directed Broadway Bound along with Steve Tabisz.

This was the second consecutive year of being in Broadway Bound for Sam Rasmussen, who is headed to high school this fall.

“I had a good time doing something I love, acting and singing,” Sam said. “I decided to do it this year because I enjoyed it so much last year.”

Emily Lawson is headed into fourth grade this fall at Madison School. She signed up for Broadway Bound because she, too, enjoys singing and acting.

“This was even better than I thought it would be,” she said of the theater camp and performance. “It was really fun, and I think we did pretty good.”
