We are writing to express our concern about staffing decisions being made by the Hinsdale High School District 86 Board.
We are very disappointed that nurses without school nurse certification have been hired. We are concerned about the delay in hiring replacements for retiring teachers. Haven’t the most outstanding candidates already signed contracts for the coming year? When are the teachers going to be hired to provide for the increased enrollment in District 86?
The board majority seems to be intent on curbing costs on the backs of teaching staff. We believe the excellence of our schools depends hugely on the continued excellence of our teaching staff. Our schools will not continue to be outstanding by adding three new business office positions at a cost of $325,000 in salary plus full benefits, issuing a no bid contract for $27,500 to verify student residency, or allowing board members access to confidential student records.
The quality of our schools will deteriorate unless the board focuses on competitive salaries and benefits for the most outstanding teachers. There certainly can be no complaints about lack of money since this is the board that voted for a zero tax levy.
