Family Friendly: Chicago Symphony Orchestra concocts music-filled ‘Stone Soup’ for kids in Hinsdale

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra is cooking up a delicious program for families. On Saturday, June 21 at 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m., they will present “Stone Soup” at the Community House, 415 W. Eighth St., Hinsdale. It’s part of the CSO’s Once Upon a Symphony program.

“Each program is designed around storytelling and performance by a small number of our musicians who, in addition to amazing musical performances, also play roles in the story,” said Jon Weber, director of learning programs for the CSO’s Institute for Learning, Access and Training, who created the program. “Each of our programs focuses on a children’s story. It’s a great vehicle for children to learn. We approach some interesting musical concepts that are appropriate for young children.”

The story of “Stone Soup” offers a great lesson about sharing. That message is emphasized in the way the musicians work together to create beautiful sounds.

Tickets are $25 at the door, $20 in advance.
