A rainy forecast forced a change of venue for the versatile band Soda, but an appreciative LaGrange Park crowd drank in the show that made kids get up and dance.
The Community Park District of LaGrange Park, businesses and community members sponsor the shows as part of the Music Under the Stars summer concert series. Performances normally are held in the amphitheater of Memorial Park, but the June 25 show was moved indoors to Park Junior High School’s auditorium.
Coordinator Darla Goudeau has dubbed this season’s lineup as the “encore summer,” because she chose crowd-pleasing bands popular in the past year or so.
Following the West Suburban Concert Band’s patriotic performance on July 2, performances are scheduled by Lisa Rene on July 9 and Rick Lindy on July 23. Pamela Rose and Windy City Country will play on July 30, followed by Mr. Blotto on Aug. 6 and Johnny Russell’s Beach Bum Band on Aug. 13. All shows are from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Home-grown talent will be featured July 16 for LaGrange Park’s own X-Factor Talent Night, modeled after the TV show’s competition. Winners in five different age groups will be chosen. Details and entry forms are at www.cpdlgp.org.
“We skipped last year and did not hold a talent night in our lineup,” Goudeau said. “But Premier Design & Cabinetry asked me to please put it back in this summer and offered to help sponsor it. I received feedback from others wanting it back in, so it is!”
Past entrants have included vocalists, small bands and dancers, but no jugglers, she said. Chicago’s Live Band Karaoke will emcee the competition.
The summer’s entertainment concludes with a jazz and blues festival Sept. 12 featuring the band, Love the Mix.Tags: LaGrange Park
