Baseball: Nazareth grad Ryan Powers picked by MLB’s Philadelphia Phillies

It wasn’t much of a surprise for Ryan Powers when he was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies.

On the last day of Major League Baseball’s three-day draft for first-year players June 7, the Phillies phoned the 2011 Nazareth grad to let him know that they were about to select him.

Powers was watching streaming video of the draft on MLB.com at home in La Grange with his father Dan, mother Sue and brother Patrick by his side. When his name was called, they began celebrating.
