Hinsdale Central student receives congressional honor in Washington

Haleigh Monyek, a resident of Clarendon Hills and a student at Hinsdale Central High School, received the Congressional Award Gold Medal in Washington, D.C.

Members of Congress joined community and corporate leaders June 19 in honoring the 283 recipients of the Congressional Award Gold Medal — Congress’ highest award for youth.

This annual event recognizes individuals who have dedicated hundreds of hours of service to their communities. The awards were presented in the Cannon Caucus Room on Capitol Hill.

Emcees Nancy Cordes and Chip Reid, both of CBS News, and Peace Corps’ Kate Raftery, former director of AmeriCorps NCCC, was the keynote speaker.
