Fashion: Looking cool — in and out of the pool this summer

Are you ready for swimsuit season? Well, ready or not, it’s here. One piece, two piece, bikini or tankini, there’s a swimsuit out there for everyone.

What’s hot this summer? White! And why not? It’s a fresh and refreshing look. You can wear it in a swimsuit, a cover up, a hat, a tote or all of the above. And don’t be afraid to wear all white.

Bright colors are also popular. Everything But Water in Oakbrook Center is stocked with vibrant colors like neon pink and Capri blue. They also carry swimsuit separates, which allow you to get the perfect fit, whether you need a larger size on top or on the bottom.

The nautical theme continues its reign as summer’s classic trend. Macy’s at Oakbrook Center has a great selection of nautical-inspired swimwear. Lauren Ralph Lauren and MICHAEL Michael Kors have both come out with a variety of suits in both separates and one pieces and in stripes and solids.

As for cover-ups, look for pieces that are versatile. Find one that you can wear over your swimsuit and then wear when going out. Wear one over your suit or put a camisole underneath and pair it with skinny white cropped jeans or slim Bermuda style shorts. Alixandra’s in Hinsdale has a great selection, and don’t forget to check out their Trina Turk swimwear while you’re there. It’s perfect for summer.

At Trousseaux in Hinsdale, I found the ultimate summer accessory for those of us who have “older” eyes. Reader Sunglasses by Eye Bobs! Finally, no more stretching out your arms to read a book or a magazine with your sunglasses on while sitting poolside or on the beach. These readers look just like stylish sunglasses.

Most of all, don’t forget the must-have item to purchase this summer — sunscreen!
