The death of a 31-year-old La Grange woman has been ruled a suicide after she was stuck by a freight train July 4 at the La Grange Road station.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:46 a.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said. She died of multiple injuries from a train striking a pedestrian, and her death was ruled a suicide, an autopsy determined July 5.

Police said the woman stepped onto the tracks and into the path of a Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train just before 5 a.m. on the holiday. Police have ruled out foul play or an accident as the cause of death.

Several crossings were blocked for a short period while the incident was investigated, police said.
