Crime briefs: Burr Ridge man reports attempt at $9,000 fraud

The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the area police departments.

Burr Ridge

DECEPTIVE PRACTICE

  • A resident on July 11 said Harris Bank notified him that someone called and tried to transfer $9,000 from his checking account over the phone. The transaction was denied, but the resident had his password and account number changed.

SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY

  • A resident of 7200 Chestnut Hills Drive said someone turned the door handle of his home, but did not get inside at about 9:50 p.m. July 13. The person then left, possibly in a dark four-door hatchback.

THEFT

  • A woman reported someone stole her iPhone 5 from a table outside Five Seasons, at 6901 Madison St., at about 5:15 p.m. July 8.
  • The manager of MB Bank, at 7000 County Line Road, on July 8 notified the Police Department he wants to pursue criminal charges against a woman who overdrew her account and is not paying the money back.

Willowbrook

THEFT

  • Someone entered more than one vehicle on the 200 block of 58th Place and stole money, a pair of Oakley sunglasses, a Briggs & Riley suitcase and its contents. The stolen items had an estimated value of $1,330. The theft was discovered at 4:15 a.m. July 7.
  • An unattended Ariens Riding lawn mower, valued at $550, was reported stolen from a lawn on the 500 block of Plainfield Road at 6:56 p.m. July 9.
