Gower Elementary District 62 launched a new theme for this summer that will continue in the 2014-2015 school year: i3 Learning: Innovate, Integrate, Inspire.
A new pilot summer i3 Learning Innovation Lab was offered to students in third through seventh grade through the leadership of the Gower INNOVATE 62 Committee. The Lab was designed to be shorter, high-interest, interactive, and project-based. The 2014 summer pilot lab was Fix it Fast — Life Inside a Chromebook and was designed by Vicky O’Boyle, engaged learning specialist at Gower West Elementary, and Rebecca Laratta, assistant superintendent of curriculum, instruction and innovation.
Second-grade teachers Vicky O’Boyle and Michelle Reynolds led the class July 9 and O’Boyle and Matthew Zawlocki (industrial technology teacher) led the class July 10. Students created a student-led help desk ticket system, learned Chromebook trouble-shooting basics, and learned how to take a part a Chromebook and put it back together again.
Gower plans to increase the number of digital learning tools available to students in the fall through this i3 Learning Initiative.Tags: Gower District 62
