Baseball: St. Joe’s baseball connection bolsters St. Mary’s roster

Former St. Joseph baseball player Stephen Scatassa doesn’t consider himself a recruiter, but his role in convincing high school teammates Luke Daughenbaugh and R.J. Brown to play at St. Mary’s in Winona, Minnesota, is undeniable.

Scatassa, St. Mary’s pitcher Brian Powers, Daughenbaugh and Brown played together on the Chargers in 2012 and are looking forward to being teammates again. Scatassa and Powers will be sophomores, while Daughenbaugh and Brown begin their first season with the Cardinals.

“I’ve known them for a while,” said Daughenbaugh, who represented St. Joe’s at the Chicago Public School-Chicago Catholic League All-Star Game June 20 at U.S. Cellular Field.
