Leatherneck Softball Welcomes Beth Golitko as Assistant Coach
The former student-athlete joins Holly Van Vlymen’s staff following one year at Cleveland State
Former Western Illinois softball outfielder Beth Golitko has joined the Western Illinois softball staff as an assistant coach, head coach Holly Van Vlymen announced. Golitko will be in charge of the outfielders and hitting as well as taking over as the recruiting coordinator.
“Beth bleeds purple and gold,” Van Vlymen said. “She had a great career here and she absolutely loves Western Illinois and being a Leatherneck. She’s excited to come back and help this program be the best it can be. She left here with a degree and three championship rings so she knows what it takes to come back and win and be successful not only on the field but in the classroom as well. She was a huge contributor to this program from her playing days to her days as a graduate assistant coach. She’s going to have a huge impact on our student-athletes.”
Goltiko joins the Leatherneck softball family after one year at Cleveland State, where she helped coach two Horizon League First Team All-Conference selections and another Second Team selection.
“I would like to thank Holly and the rest of the athletic administration for this great opportunity,” Golitko said. “I am both humbled and excited to be a Leatherneck again. I have learned a lot from Coach Van Vlymen over the past several years, and I’m excited to work alongside her and former teammate Ashley Campbell to continue the traditions of Leatherneck softball. I love this school and program and cannot wait to start working with the team towards many successful seasons.”
The LaGrange Park, Ill. native was previously a graduate assistant coach at Western Illinois during the 2012 and 2013 seasons, mentoring the team in the classroom as well as on the field, resulting in a 3.37 team GPA, fifth highest among all teams at Western Illinois that semester.
During her playing career at Western, Golitko was named First Team All-Summit League in 2010, finished 26th in the nation in doubles per game in 2011 and was selected to The Summit League’s Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence in 2009 and 2011. Golitko ended her career with a .326 average, scoring 70 runs with 33 doubles, nine home runs and 81 RBIs.
Golitko graduated from Western Illinois in May 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in Science before earning a master’s degree in Kinesiology from Western Illinois in 2013.
