This week, we meet Flynn Rachford of Western Springs. She joined the CTWS after kindergarten.
Q. Why did you join CTWS?
A. I joined CTWS because I was in need of an after school activity, I was looking all over, and once I found one, I was really excited, on my first day I knew I would be doing this for the rest of my life!
Q. What made you discover your interest in theatre?
A. Again, my first class. I walked in, and everyone greeted me kindly, then when I went into class, I loved the creativity of how everyone interpenetrated a character differently. I wanted to see more of that.
Q. What is your favorite thing about theatre?
A. My favorite thing about theater is how everyone gets together, and makes a play, it isn’t just the actors, it’s a mix of all these different helpers and volunteers. It’s really amazing.
Q. At CTWS do you work on stage, behind the scenes, or both?
A. Both. I loved acting onstage in “Madeline’s Christmas” and I loved working as makeup student chair (or at least one of the student chairs) in “The Snow Queen.”
Q. What is your favorite thing about CTWS?
A. My favorite thing about CTWS is that they offer this experience to people as young as first grade. That’s amazing. Not many people are offered that opportunity.
Q. Do you see yourself continuing to act?
A. Yes. That ends the question. I will always act.
Q. What do you want to be when you grow up?
A. I want to be a veterinarian. I have always loved animals and it would be an honor to take care of them.
Q. What is your dream role?
A. My dream role is… any role! Getting a role is like receiving a present: it’s special and means something. I just want to get roles, and that’s fine for me. (But on the less modest side, I have always wanted to be in “The Lion King.”)Tags: Children's Theatre of Western Springs
