Brookfield Zoo parking is filled to capacity after a broken gas pipe caused road closures and shut down the zoo’s main parking lot.

A 3-inch gas pipe broke at 31st Street and Golfview Road in Brookfield on Friday morning, according to a statement from zoo spokeswoman Sondra Katzen.

The break has caused 31st Street to be closed between First and Prairie avenues, leaving the zoo’s main north parking lot inaccessible, according to Katzen.

Guests entering the zoo were being directed to the south parking lot, which reached capacity shortly after noon, Katzen said in an email.

The zoo is providing accommodations for guests exiting the zoo whose vehicles are parked in the north lot, according to the statement.
