Crime briefs: Several kids spotted on roof of Elm School

The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the area police departments.

Burr Ridge

FRAUD

  • When a resident tried to file his income taxes, he learned Aug. 4 that someone had filed a fraudulent tax return under his name. The resident also received a bill from TurboTax for tax preparation services he did not use.
  • A resident reported Aug. 7 someone used her identity to file an unemployment claim.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

  • A resident of Bay Rum Court reported Aug. 10 that a window on the southeast side of his home was broken and there were pry marks on the window panel. The resident said the damage happened about three weeks ago. It did not appear that anyone entered the home.

SUSPICIOUS BEHAVIOR

  • A woman on the treadmill at Lifetime Fitness, at 601 Burr Ridge Parkway, at about 11:35 p.m. Aug. 9, looked outside and saw two men about 20 years old looking in her car and the one parked next to hers. She went outside to question them, but they left in a white BMW convertible.

THEFT

  • A woman reported someone stole $5,000 worth of jewelry from the bedroom of her home on the 400 block of Devon Drive on July 24 or July 25. There were no signs of forced entry.
  • A catalytic converter was reported stolen from a 2001 Ford on the 7500 block of Brush Hill Road. The theft was discovered at 7:30 a.m. July 31.

TRESPASS

  • Someone reported there were several juveniles on the roof of Elm School, at 6010 S. Elm St., about 10:35 p.m. Aug. 7. When an officer responded, he found one boy who admitted he had been walking around on the roof. The officer told him to stay off the roof of the school.
