This edition of Library Look brings us the La Grange Public Library’s Rebecca Bartlett, Head of Technical Services.

Q. How long have you been with the library?

A. I started at the library in February 2011.

Q. What is your favorite part of your job at the library?

A. I’m in charge of ordering and invoicing, so I get to see all the new books and A/V items. I also like that I can bike to work.

Q. What is something library users may not know about you?

A. I studied Spanish, Russian, and Polish in college, and Czech at a previous job. I was on the cover of “Library Journal” in January 2009 for being part of the Cedar Rapids Public Library management team named “Librarian of the Year.”

Q. What do you think is an underused feature/service of the library, or what is your favorite feature/service?

A. This year, we started offering streaming and downloadable movies online through Hoopla, IndieFlix and OverDrive. You can watch them on a computer, smartphone or tablet, and it’s free!

Q. What is your favorite book and why?

A. I enjoyed Cheryl Strayed’s “Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar.”

The advice in her column is so real, raw and touching. My least favorite book is “La muerte de Artemio Cruz / The Death of Artemio Cruz.” This is a great book if you enjoy reading about murderers dying extremely graphically of an intestinal illness! Maybe I was missing the point of this classic title.

Q. What author or character would you like to meet? Why?

A. I would like to meet Jane Austen. She had such insight into human nature, and lived in a fascinating time. Her stories will always survive.

Q. What are your hobbies?

A. I enjoy running, biking, yoga and Pilates.
