What happened to summer? Somehow it’s almost over, and school is beginning. But I am sure many parents are ready for their kids to get back to school, especially their teenagers. And for most teenage girls, it’s all about school fashion.
So I hit two great local boutiques, Vintage Charm in La Grange and Alixandra Collections in Hinsdale, to find out what the back-to-school trends are this season.
It seems it’s all about denim for teens, especially the rolled-up, cuffed style in the boyfriend, or baggy, fit or the skinny fit. Even denim shorts in that style are all the craze.
Another hot trend this school season are cross body bags. This is a no-brainer trend. This ultimate handbag frees up teens’ hands so they can text!
Long, shawl-collar cardigan sweaters are a hit this season, too. They make a great layering option for the fall — pair them with leggings, jeans or rolled-up denim shorts. Just throw a great T-shirt underneath to make it fashionable and easy.
Leggings! Did I even have to mention them? Of course, the legging is always in fashion for teenage girls. But how about trying something other than your basic black legging? Why not try a tie-dye one or one with some texture?
As for shoes, or should I say boots, the short ankle boots, or booties, are the hottest shoe this season. These boots can be worn with just about anything — jeans, shorts, skirts and leggings. They are the must-have boot of the season.
So here it goes, the back-to-school trends this season are: rolled up, cuff denim jeans and shorts, cross body bags, leggings (and not just black), long, shawl-collar cardigans and booties. Happy shopping, girls, and welcome back to school!
