Welcome to the new school year. Summer is winding down and preparation has ramped up for our students’ return to Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Elementary District 181 on Aug. 25.

As educators, we feel a sense of excitement similar to what our students feel at this time of year. We are privileged to be the smiling faces to greet the children of this community as they come through our doors.

I hope you had an opportunity for fun and relaxation this summer.

Personally, the highlight of summer was the birth of my second grandchild.

I also enjoyed a performance by our summer theater camp participants and our administrative team retreat. I have truly appreciated the conversations with community leaders and stakeholders, as well. I invite you to read the Summer Snapshots publication in our website news for more information about the work we have been completing throughout the district this summer.

I am now looking forward to the opportunities we have this year to refine our common vision, clarify the path to get our district there, and more fully define the roles we will play in making that vision a reality.

Knowing that 2014-15 is going to be centered on clarity of vision, I see a parallel to the “Wizard of Oz” and the path to the Emerald City. If we all know where the yellow brick road is leading, and we have our community’s support, nothing can impede our success. I look forward to walking this journey with you.

Don White

Superintendent

Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Elementary District 181
