After 31 weeks of a turbulent pregnancy, Rocco, Vincent and Francesco were born to Jaclyn and Alfredo Guerra on Feb. 7, 2012. After the birth, the couple thought the finish line was in sight. They did not know that their journey with Rocco, Vincent and Francesco had only begun.

The next two months that they spent in the NICU tested their strength, faith and love for one another. With support from staff, family and friends, their new family grew stronger day by day. The care from the staff at Adventist Hinsdale Hospital helped guide them with their boys’ two month stay in the NICU.

While the Guerra triplets were in the NICU, each boy received at least one blood transfusion.

“These blood transfusions saved the lives of my sons,” explained Jackie Guerra. “Each year on the boys’ birthdays, my husband and I donate blood. It’s the least we can do to show our gratitude for all that Adventist Hinsdale Hospital has done for our sons.”

Today, Rocco, Vincent and Francesco are healthy 2-year-olds living in North Riverside. The family will host a blood drive in the triplets’ honor in order to increase awareness that giving our own blood could save the life of another. The Guerra family is conducting a community blood drive from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Adventist Lab Partners Blood Center, 121 N. Elm St. in Hinsdale.

Anyone interested in participating in the drive can sign up for a time by visiting www.signupgenius.com and entering triplethreatbd@gmail.com. If you have questions, or prefer to sign up by phone, call 630-856-7804.
