1. The Oak Brook Half Marathon, 7 a.m. Monday
The course moves through the Oak Brook Sports Core to a network of running and cycling paths on the McDonald’s Corporate campus, then into the Fullersburg Woods and around Oak Brook Golf Club. The course is a variation of streets, bike and forest preserve paths and hilly terrain. There are awards for overall male and female winners, the standard Chicago Area Runners Association age groups and several groups in a Clydesdale division. 2. Labor Day Family Camp, 8 a.m. Friday
Take the family out for a weekend camping experience at YMCA’s Camp Duncan. Swimming, boating, fishing, blobbing, high ropes climbing, games, archery and campfires are just some of the activities that will be available for families to participate in. 3. Family-Friendly Painting Party, 11 a.m. Sunday
All ages are invited to re-create a painting by a local artist. Nonalcoholic event; families are encouraged to bring snacks. Cost includes instruction, supplies and a take-home 11-by-14 canvas. Bottle & Bottega, 1 W. Harris Ave., La Grange. $25.
4. Concerts on the Green: Chicago Tribute, 7:30 p.m. Friday
25 or 6 to 4 plays tribute to Chicago, the famous American rock band. Burr Ridge Village Center, 701 Burr Ridge Parkway, Burr Ridge. Free.
5. Annual Civil War Encampment, 11 a.m. Saturday
The 10th Illinois Regiment will provide the reenactment of the Civil War Encampment on the lawn of the museum. Graue Mill, 3800 York Road, Oak Brook. Free.
6. R. M. Proce Artist’s Reception, 7 p.m. Friday
R.M. Proce is present to talk about his work displayed in a solo exhibition at the museum. The retrospective exhibit showcases 80 works of art, including paintings, drawings,and some sculptures. Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 S. Cottage Hill Ave., Elmhurst. Free.
