Burr Ridge water customers can soon expect to pay a little more, but a new rate structure will see fewer customers paying a higher price for higher usage.
The Burr Ridge Village Board has approved a 16 percent increase in the village’s water rates. The increase passes on a 16 percent hike in the rate the village pays to water supplier Bedford Park for Lake Michigan water.
Customers who use between 0 and 70,000 gallons in a two-month billing cycle will now pay $4.66 per 1,000 gallons, an increase of 64 cents. In the current structure, customers must use fewer than 60,000 gallons to qualify for the lowest rate.
Individuals who use between 70,001 and 90,000 gallons will begin paying $7.99 per 1,000 gallons when the new rates start in March. Those who use more than 90,001 gallons per billing cycle will pay $10.41 per 1,000 gallons, an increase of $1.43.
Fewer than 10 percent of residential customers cross into the top two tiers.
Commercial customers will pay $7.39 per 1,000 gallons after the rate hike. The current rate for commercial customers is $6.37 per 1,000 gallons.
