Family Friendly: Fall Festival features fun for the whole family
Families can enjoy a petting zoo, miniature golf course at more at the annual Family Fall Festival Sept. 15.

Three hours of free fun await kids and parents at the Family Fall Festival, 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 in the pavilion at Prospect Park, 315 Chicago Ave., Clarendon Hills.
“We have a couple of food vendors, a petting zoo and a wagon ride,” said Steven Thomas, superintendent of recreation for the Clarendon Hills Park District. “A pumpkin sculptor will be carving a pumpkin that we will raffle off.”
There will also be a couple of inflatables and a nine-hole miniature golf course. “We have a DJ playing music the entire time,” Thomas said. Kids can get their faces painted and participate in other activities. Local organizations will have booths in the park, with representatives on hand to discuss their services. The only charge is for purchasing food.
“This event has been run for years — long before I was here,” Thomas said. “It’s our biggest special event.”

Grand plan
Kids are invited to bring a grandparent or two to Celebrate National Grandparents Day, 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9 at Hinsdale Public Library, 20 E. Maple St. They will work together on two projects — decorating a paper quilt that will be displayed in the library and a picture frame that they can take home. Refreshments will be served. Reservations are required.

Ruff morning
Canine capers will be the focus of a Here Doggy, Doggy, Doggy! Storytime, 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12 at the Oak Brook Barnes and Noble, 297 Oakbrook Center. Kids will hear, “Super-Duper Dudley!” by Sue Mongredien and “One Two That’s My Shoe!” by Alison Murray, and do a related coloring activity.

Terrible twos tackled
Moms and dads can unwind and visit with other parents while their 2-to-3-year-old burns off excess energy at “Stay n’ Play,” 9 to 10:15 a.m. Mondays, Sept. 10-Oct. 15 at the Park District of La Grange’s Recreation Center, 536 East Ave. Toddlers will play games, sing, dance and socialize. Cost is $28 for residents, $36 for nonresidents.
