Jennycakes bakery to close in Clarendon Hills

CLARENDON HILLS — Oct. 13 will be the final day of operation for Jennycakes Cakes & Sweets, which opened three years ago at 102 S. Prospect Ave.
“It’s hard to say goodbye, but it’s really about me wanting to have more time with my three kids,” said owners Jennifer Surowiec, who is a Clarendon Hills resident. “Things with the shop have gone very well, but it opened my eyes to the amount of work involved.”
While a variety of cakes and cookies are available at Jennycakes, Surowiec said about 80 percent of her business has been making custom cakes.
“That’s been really fun,” she said. “Making cakes for birthdays and weddings has kind of made me feel part of some of the families.”
Surowiec, who has leased space for her store, said she doesn’t know what will take over the location.
“I’ve had some people ask about buying equipment, and it’s all set up for food, but there isn’t anything certain, yet, that I know about,” she said.
