Have some Halloween fun early in October
Pumpkins and decorating materials will be available for kids for free at Hinsdale’s Fall Family Fest on Saturday, Oct. 13 at Burlington Park.

Halloween is coming early to the village of Hinsdale. Kids are encouraged to wear costumes for a parade that kicks off the fourth annual free Fall Family Fest, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13.
The event will be held at Hinsdale Middle School, 100 S. Garfield Ave. It was moved indoors from Burlington Park because of the change of rain.
Weather permitting, a costume parade will walk around the school grounds beginning at 11:15 a.m. Costumes will be judged for prizes at the Chamber of Commerce tent in the park. Lots of other holiday fun is planned.
“We provide 500 pumpkins and decorating materials for young kids at no charge,” Parks and Recreation Director Gina Hassett said. “We have tabletop carnival games and age-appropriate inflatables.” Little Miss Ann will perform at 12:30 p.m.
Even though the event ends at 2 p.m., kids can trick or treat in the downtown area until 3 p.m. Families can also visit the Hinsdale Fire Department and Police Department across from the park for their open house, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

ANOTHER FALL FEST
Scarecrow making, candy diving and a petting zoo are a few attractions at Cantigny Fall Festival, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at Cantigny Park, 1s151 Winfield Road, Wheaton. There will also be a stiltwalker/juggler and music at this free event. There will be a nominal charge for hayrides, face painting and pumpkin decorating.

MEET THE PRESIDENT
We’re referring to Abraham Lincoln who will visit the Churchville Schoolhouse, 3N784 Church Road, Bensenville, during Heritage Day, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13. There will also be a spelling bee, games and music at this free event. Heritage Day continues at Fischer Farm, 16W680 Old Grand Ave., Bensenville with music, pony rides, a petting zoo, inflatables and more for $5 per child.

PURR-FECT WAY TO START THE DAY
Kids will be asked, Who’s Your Favorite Cat? at a storytime featuring two Splat the Cat tales by Rob Scotton, 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17 at the Oak Brook Barnes and Noble, 297 Oakbrook Center. They’ll hear “Secret Agent Splat!” and “Scaredy-Cat Splat!,” receive giveaways and do a themed activity.
