Halloween
“Searching for Peabody’s Tomb,” an interactive Halloween experience, will be presented by First Folio Theatre through Oct. 31 at Mayslake Hall, located on the grounds of the Mayslake Peabody Estate, 31st Street and Route 83, Oak Brook. Performances are Wednesday through Sundays every half-hour from 7-10:30 p.m. Groups of 15-20 will join the mansion’s ghostly butler on a tour of historic Mayslake Hall, in search of the spirit of F.S. The Great Pumpkin Chase will be held from 5-7:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Christian Church of Clarendon Hills, 5750 Holmes Ave. The event is for children of all ages features games, candy, face painting and food. “Night of the Living Dead” will be presented as a Theatre-Hike from 3-5:30 p.m. Oct. 22-23, 29-30 at The Morton Arboretum, I-88 and Route 53, Lisle, offering a different scene at locations throughout the Arboretum grounds. Audience members walk to each location to enjoy the unfolding story. Regular hikes, which can cover up to two miles with multiple stops along the way, are on Saturdays, and low-impact hikes (suitable for strollers, walkers and wheelchairs) are on Sundays. Hikes begin at the Thornhill Education Center. Wear comfortable walking shoes, dress for the weather, and bring a water bottle, blanket or lawn chair. Through Dec. 11: “Between the States: Photographs from the American Civil War,” a traveling exhibition from the collections of the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography. This exhibit commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Civil War through a selection of rare facsimile photographs by George Barnard, Mathew Brady, and Alexander Gardner and others. Through Dec. 11: “Letters from Home,” original artwork created by the Elmhurst Artists’ Guild, inspired by Elmhurst Historical Museum’s collection of letters to Civil War veteran and Elmhurst resident Frederick Fischer from his family. These artistic interpretations offer an intimate depiction of the ordeals experienced by soldiers at war and their families on the homefront.

“Four for Fall,” four new exhibitions of works by Chicago artists, on display through Dec. 31 at the Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 S. Cottage Hill Ave., Elmhurst. “Matt Woodward: The Tremendous Alone” features immense drawings about architecture. Six vast drawings fill the gallery space with an intimate and visceral view of the artist’s personal memory on paper. Additionally, a series of more than a dozen small drawings, some studies for larger work, provide an intimate view of the artist’s ideas and process. “Glenn Wexler: Stillness in Motion,” a multi-media exhibition, is about the in-between spaces of nature and the developed world, seen through the lens of the urban setting with its vast and disparate elements of nature and industry. Mixing blurred shots taken from train cars with precise studies of outdoor ads, Wexler captures the aesthetic of travel through contemporary Asian cities. “Firat Erdim: The Arbor,” gathers the work of Erdim, sculptor and architect, exploring the transformation of objects and places between states of nature, raw material, construction and ruin. “Collection Highlights: New Acquisitions,” features 18 works added to the museum’s collection, including photography, works on paper, painting, sculpture, and installation works.
