Physicians honored for their work with Value Awards

Six physicians were honored for their work at Adventist Hinsdale and La Grange Memorial hospitals with Physician Value Awards.
Employees can nominate medical staff members whom they deem to be outstanding in fulfilling the hospitals’ mission and values in their professional and personal lives. Employees are given criteria to nominate physicians in five areas — Inclusiveness, Integrity, Excellence, Compassion and Stewardship.
Among the award recipients:
Dr. Jamal E. Daki, Inclusiveness: Daki of Homer Glen was recognized for his work with the La Grange Memorial Hospital Foundation as physician chairman of its annual gala in 2012.
“He has been a bridge builder throughout the event planning process and has contributed many creative solutions to event-related challenges,” said Brett A. Skeen, La Grange Memorial Hospital Foundation executive director.
Dr. Maninder S. Kohli, Integrity: Kohli of Willow Springs was recognized for his care of patients and their families, ensuring they are included in decisions about care.
“He lives out the mission of Adventist Hinsdale Hospital as he goes beyond his day-to-day medical duties, always willing to accept new patients,” said the Adventist Hinsdale Hospital nursing staff in its nomination.
Dr. John E. Gocke, Excellence: Gocke of Western Springs was recognized for his work beginning a patient screening program, which has helped to save patient lives.
“I am so lucky to work with such a wonderful physician who treats every case that comes to our lab as if it were his own family member,” said Leticia Schultz, department secretary.
Dr. Janet Kish, Excellence: Kish of Burr Ridge was recognized for her work participating in beta testing for implementation of ThinPrep instrumentation for pap smears at Adventist Midwest Health facilities.
Dr. Anand P. Shah, Compassion: Shah of Chicago was recognized by Jim Today, facilities director, for Shah’s work with his family and friends. Today referenced a close friend’s brother specifically.
“I was with the family when Dr. Shah provided difficult, but compassionate and accurate, information about the situation. He communicates with sensitivity to the situation,” Today said.
Dr. Edgar S. Carell, Stewardship: Carell of Clarendon Hills was recognized for his work with the cardiac catheterization teams at both hospitals. Dr. Carell’s work has initiated same day discharges for patients receiving cardiac or peripheral interventions.
“Length of stay has been reduced tremendously for these patients,” said department manager Chris Anna and technician Susan Houtchens in their nomination.
The Physician Value Awards were presented at the General Medical Staff Meeting held Dec. 6 at the Oak Brook Marriott.
