Family Shelter Service rolled out The Magic of the Orient Express during its annual gala April 13 at Bobak’s Signature Events in Woodridge. More than 400 guests turned out for a night of intrigue including a mystery game with literary detectives of yesteryear to help guide them to the clues.
Attendees bid on items such as trips, sports tickets, in-home chef events and even a room makeover through a highly active bid board, as well as silent and live auctions.
Eileen Sachanda, Family Shelter board president, discussed the issue of domestic violence in our community. “Sometimes we think domestic violence is not a problem in DuPage County, but with 600 calls per month to Family Shelter from law enforcement, we know that it is. Tonight, I ask you to join us; we welcome your involvement in any way.”
The evening’s featured guest was columnist, reporter and TV personality Jenniffer Weigel who also discussed the prevalence of domestic violence and the importance of supporting Family Shelter’s mission.
The jazz music of the Peter Mack Trio accompanied by vocalist Paulette Bruce rounded out the evening.
Family Shelter Service works throughout DuPage County to provide shelter, counseling and advocacy to people affected by domestic violence.
