Warm weather, a beautiful setting, generous golfers, and dedicated staff and volunteers all came together and resulted in a wildly successful Brighter Futures Golf Outing on Sept. 12. The 11th annual Catholic Charities golf fundraiser raised more than $30,000 for homeless services in western Cook County.
The Bolingbrook Golf Club hosted 70 golfers and nearly 100 people attended the dinner and raffle in the evening.
The golf outing benefits Catholic Charities’ New Hope Apartments Program, which works intensively with families over a two-year period to help them gradually work their way out of homelessness and into economic stability.
Maria, a New Hope Apartments graduate, spoke briefly about how the program gave her family a secure place to thrive when they were in need.
Bishop John R. Manz, auxiliary bishop, Archdiocese of Chicago, Episcopal Vicar-Vicariate IV, was a special guest.
The event was chaired by Mike Benson Jr. of Clarendon Hills and Mike Benson Sr. of Westchester. Committee members included Jason Fowler and Kevin O’Reilly, both of Hinsdale; Charlie Carey and Bob Kastenholz, both of Western Springs; and John Barrett of Westchester.
