A west suburban man who wanted to get money from his family staged his own kidnapping to demand $1,000 ransom, according to police who later arrested him.

Dorian Ford’s family, who lives near Willowbrook, called the DuPage County sheriff’s office about 7 p.m. Tuesday, reporting the 19-year-old had been kidnapped. The family was told to pay $1,000 ransom for his safe return, the sheriff’s office said.

Sheriff’s deputies found Dorian Ford, who said he had been struck over the head and abducted. It was later learned he was not kidnapped but had staged the incident and made the ransom call himself, the sheriff’s office said.

Ford, of the 10S600 block of Ivy Lane, was charged with felony disorderly conduct for filing a false crime report. He was being held in the DuPage County Jail pending a hearing at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Wheaton.
