The Burr Ridge Middle School boys’ basketball team will play for the Class 3A Illinois Elementary School Association championship after winning a pair of games at the state tournament Saturday.
The team, led by coach Michael LaCassa, will return to Monticello on Thursday to play the championship game.
The Chieftans made the semi-finals Saturday by defeating Peoria Christian. They then beat the Cardinals of Pleasant Plains to move on to the finals.
This is the first year that the Chieftans have been eligible to play in the IESA.
“I’m very excited for them,” LaCassa said.
This is his second year as coach of the Chieftans.
The championship game against Bloomington Holy Trinity will be played at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
