Mary Lindquist stepped out of the doors of Hinsdale South High School as a member of the school’s first graduating class 44 years ago. But she’s never really left.
As co-vice president of the Hinsdale South Foundation, Lindquist remains dedicated to her alma mater.
Lindquist, whose own children have graduated from the Darien school, joined the foundation’s board soon after its inception in 1998.
“I’ve been on it ever since,” said Lindquist, who has come to be known as the resident historian, among other things.
As a board member, she helps not only to raise money, but also to keep fellow alums connected to the high school.
“One of the foundation’s four initiatives is to establish relationships with alumni,” Lindquist said.
The Hinsdale South Hall of Fame is one way to do that.
Each year at about this time, Lindquist puts out the call for Hall of Fame nominations.
Introduced in 2005, the Hinsdale South Hall of Fame recognizes alumni and retired staff that have honored the high school by distinguishing themselves through career achievements, outstanding community service, and significant contributions to the Hinsdale South community.
Past inductees include decorated veterans, business leaders, professional athletes and accomplished physicians.
“There are a lot of successful alums out there,” Lindquist said.
Nominations of 2012 inductees are due by June 8. Those chosen for the honor will be recognized during American Education Week in November and will be perpetually honored with a plaque in the school’s main hallway.
“We encourage people to go online,” said Lindquist, where they can find a nomination form and more information at hshsfoundation.org.
