Free Friday night Concerts on the Green have become a much-enjoyed summer tradition in Burr Ridge. This year’s series of 11 performances includes something for everyone, with bands from a variety of genres on the schedule.

Couples, families and friends are invited to bring their blankets and chairs for what concert corporate sponsor Russell Smith of Edward Jones called “little Ravinia.”

“It’s a family event. Kids are welcome. We really want it to be family friendly,” said Burr Ridge Trustee Maureen Wott, who serves on the committee that organizes the summer series.

“It’s just such a high-quality event,” she said, and so popular that the series was expanded from 10 to 11 shows this summer.

Lisa Scheiner, assistant to the village administrator and staff liaison to the Events Committee, said the concert series, now in its fifth season, gets bigger and better every year. Last year’s concerts averaged 800 attendees, with many attracting a crowd of 1,000 or more.

“Our attendance has gone up considerably every year,” Scheiner said. She said this year’s concerts will include a new performance tent and an improved sound system.

A Village Center restaurant will sell wine, beer and non-alcoholic refreshments at each event, and many area restaurants will have to-go food options at the show. Guests can bring their own food, as well.

Thanks to its corporate sponsors, this year’s concert series is free not only to those who attend, but to Burr Ridge taxpayers, as well. The entire cost of the series has been covered by Russell Smith of Edward Jones; Loyola Center for Health; Kumon Math and Reading Center; BMO Harris Bank; The Community Bank of Willowbrook; Convergence Technologies; MARS Chocolate North America; and Goldstine, Skrodzki, Russian, Nemec and Hoff, Ltd. Family Law.
