Salt Creek Quilters honor Burr Ridge veteran with quilt

Adeline Carewicz isn’t the only Adeline at Emeritus in Burr Ridge, but she is the only woman at the senior living facility to have served during World War II.
That’s why she is known as “Sarge.”
Sarge was honored last week for the two years she served in the Army, recruiting other women to the Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps.
Candace Caruso, who has worked with Carewicz on a sewing project over the last several months, presented her with a patriotic quilt bearing a list of Carewicz’s military honors.
“I want her to know we do respect what she did,” said Caruso, a member of the Salt Creek Quilters Guild.
Members of Carewicz’s family, her neighbors, as well as members of the Salt Creek Quilters, were on hand for the presentation, which was a surprise to Carewicz.
“There is more to being patriotic than flying a flag,” said Caruso, who completed the quilt just in time for Independence Day.
She encourages others to find a way to honor a veteran.
“Just tell them ‘thank you.’ It will make their day,” she said.
