High School enrollment down from last spring

HINSDALE — Enrollment in Hinsdale High School District 86 so far this year is higher at Central and lower at South than at the start of last school year.

At Hinsdale Central, 2,824 students were enrolled as of Sept. 5, that is 33 more than the 2,791 enrolled at the same point last year, District 86 Superintendent Nicholas Wahl reported to the School Board Sept. 10.

At Hinsdale South, 1,703 students had registered as of Sept. 5, which were 40 fewer than the 1,743 registered last year.

Combined, enrollment in District 86 was 4,527 on Sept. 5, seven fewer than at the same point a year ago.

The total enrollment of 4,527 also was 36 fewer than the 4,563 enrolled in both high schools as of last March, when district officials considered the number of staff who would be needed for the upcoming school year.

Official fall enrollment, used to prepare five-year projections, will be taken on Sept. 28.~.
