Burr Ridge area trucking company to phase out driving classes

BURR RIDGE — Due to light and noise complaints from nearby residents, a truck driving school operating out of Compass Truck Sales, 15W580 North Frontage Road, says they plan to phase out their driving classes and relocate them to another facility.

The Village Board and Plan Commission were considering the forcible annexation of the Compass Truck Sales property to bring the business under Burr Ridge jurisdiction, and allow the village to legally shut down the driving school because of its violation of local ordinances.

Compass had previously submitted paperwork for a voluntary annexation agreement with the DuPage County Board of Zoning Approvals, but has withdrawn it. Compass now says they are interested in a voluntary annexation agreement with Burr Ridge.

“We’ve been a good neighbor up to this point, and we would like to continue to be one,” said Timothy Dwyer, legal representative for Compass Truck Sales. “It’s clear that this driving school is not the what the residents want, and we are in the process of trying to relocate it already.”

Dwyer said he thought Burr Ridge and Compass could accomplish this task faster by working together, rather than the village force-annexing the property and going through the accompanying legal battle.

In a 4-2 decision with trustees Bob Grela and Maureen Wott casting the dissenting votes, the board of trustees voted to give Compass Truck Sales until Sept. 24 to submit the necessary zoning paperwork in order for the business to enter into an annexation agreement. The Plan Commission will consider the matter at its Oct. 15 meeting and also hear public comments.

If the Plan Commission is not satisfied with the paperwork and the relocating progress made by Compass at that point, the village can still vote to forcibly annex the property.
