Time to trim your trees in Burr Ridges

Updated: December 3, 2012 1:34AM

BURR RIDGE — The village will pick up tree trimmings free of charge beginning Oct. 8 at homes north of 79th street and beginning Oct. 15 at homes south of 79th Street.

Residents are asked to stack limbs and branches on the parkway, stem ends toward the street, before 7 a.m. on the first day of pickup. Branches and twigs shorter than 18 inches should be placed into a yard waste bag for the regular trash collection, and no branches larger than 4 inches in diameter will be accepted.

Crews will spend a maximum of two hours at any single property. Additional chipping time will be billed at $50 per hour.

“It’s a great service to have,” said Gary Gatlin, village arborist.

He said the village spends about $36,400 each year to pick up, chip and haul away branches for its residents. Those branches are turned into about 2,300 cubic yards of wood chips, Gatlin said.

This program, which is offered every spring and fall, is limited to homeowners who perform their own tree and shrub care. Branches removed by contractors are not accepted.
