Burr Ridge’s Gower district meets standards

BURR RIDGE — The recently released Illinois School Report Card shows Gower West and Gower Middle schools not only met adequate yearly progress goals at all grade levels, they met No Child Left Behind standards for 2013, as well.
Eighty-five percent of students were required to meet or exceed minimum standards on the Illinois Standardized Assessment Test in order to meet No Child Left Behind standards this year. That goal increases by 7.5 percent each year, with a goal of 100 percent of students meeting or exceeding minimum standards at all schools by 2014.
At Gower Middle School, 95.3 percent met or exceeded standards in reading and 97.5 percent met or exceeded in Math on the 2012 ISAT exam. At Gower West Elementary, 92.7 percent of students scored above the minimum in reading and 95.5 percent met or exceeded standards in math.
“We are proud of our strong scores,” said Assistant Superintendant for Curriculum and Innovation Rebecca Laratta.
She said the scores were a result of focused efforts not only by teachers and students, but also by staff, administrators and parents.
Laratta said the schools will continue to work toward that 2014 goal of 100 percent.
“That’s always our goal. We want everyone to be successful,” she said.
