BURR RIDGE — With just 11 votes separating Burr Ridge Mayor Gary Grasso from Sharon E. Bryant on election night, Grasso was hesitant to declare victory. But official numbers show he won the position of District 3 Commissioner by 21 votes.
“I am looking forward to doing the job the people have elected me to do,” said Grasso, who will be sworn into office on Dec. 3.
In a Nov. 6 advisory referendum, DuPage voters overwhelmingly said elected officials in Illinois should not be allowed to simultaneously hold more than one elected office. But Grasso isn’t swayed and said he intends to retain both part-time positions.
“I don’t think it is an issue,” Grasso said.
He said he has time to dedicate to both jobs and will not collect dual benefits or pensions.
“I am as opposed to that as anybody,” he said.
Grasso, who was re-elected as Burr Ridge mayor in 2010, said his chief motivation and main priority as commissioner is fiscal responsibility and consolidation of expenses.
