BURR RIDGE — Beginning this May 18, Armed Forces Day will include the awarding of the Burr Ridge Patriotic Award.

“There are some people in and around our village who have done a world of good,” said Jack Schaus, treasurer of the Burr Ridge Veterans Memorial Committee.

That committee is seeking out those people as nominees for the Patriotic Award, which Schaus hopes will become an annual tradition.

Potential nominees include veterans and those who have served veterans or members of the armed forces. Each nominee must also have demonstrated support for the country and the Constitution, as well as initiated programs to encourage young people to honor those who have served.

Nominations will be accepted at Village Hall, 7600 S. County Line Road, through April 15. The winner of the first Patriotic Award will be chosen by the Veterans Memorial Committee by May 10.

That winner will be honored at the Armed Forces Day ceremony at the Burr Ridge Veterans Memorial, next to Village Hall, on May 18. The honoree’s name will be displayed on a plaque in the Village Hall, with a new name to be added each year.
