HINSDALE — JAM’uary, billed as a night of bands, bites and beers, will take place Jan. 26 at The Community House, Eighth and Madison in Hinsdale.

“It’s a brand new event,” said Jenifer Fabian, executive director at The Community House.

The Hinsdale organization has supported the Willowbrook Corner community, located near 91st Street and Route 83, for more than 17 years, providing children there with afterschool tutoring and mentoring, as well as summer programs and spring break camps. The loss of United Way funding last year left the Willowbrook Corner Learning Program with a financial hole.

“It’s amazing how much need there is so close to home,” Fabian said.

A significant number of people who live in the three apartment complexes that make up Willowbrook Corner are low-income.

“We serve about 150 children,” Fabian said, but far more could use their help. Money raised at JAM’uary will help them do so.

The evening will feature live music, including the Chicago rock band Expo ’76.

“They have a following all over the Chicagland area. We’re excited about having them come out,” Fabian said.

A buffet, premium beers and wines will be served as part of the $50 ticket price.

The $100 VIP package also includes a JAM’uary mug and t-shirt.

Sponsorships also are available. A gift of $50, for example, will provide a child with school supplies for the year. $1,000 provides 80 children with a health and wellness curriculum.

Those who attend also will have an opportunity to learn more about the needs of the Willowbrook Corner community, and about ways that they can help fulfill the needs of a neighborhood so close to home.
