Burr Ridge seventh-graders competing for state title

BURR RIDGE — The Burr Ridge Middle School seventh-graders will compete Feb. 7 for the state boys basketball championship.

The junior varsity team traveled to Wenona on Feb. 2, where they beat Piasa Southwestern to make it to the final four. The Chieftans went on to win their semifinal game against Tolono Unity 42-25.

Coach Michael LaCassa said Joffari Brown and Korvonte Davis led their team with 16 points each. Marshawn Phillips, Martique Barksdale, Adrian Presely and Lukas Rainis contributed on defense.

Twelve players and 15 cheerleaders will make the trip back to Wenona on Feb. 7 to play for the state title. That game is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Burr Ridge Middle School eighth-graders hope to defend their state championship as they head to sectional play against Rockford Marshall at Wenona Fieldcrest East Middle School. That game is set for 6 p.m. Feb. 6.

The eighth-graders won the regional championship against Morris Shabbona 48-28 on Jan. 31.
